The Poor can’t afford to pay for justice in the court
system. Therefore, they can be punished
even when they aren’t guilty of having committed a crime. In the case below, a lady is an example of such a crime committed against her by our own
Justice System:
News Report:
Atlanta woman wrongly imprisoned for 53 days because of name
mix-up
Year: 2011
The Event
as Told:
An Atlanta woman says she was mistakenly imprisoned for 53
days because police confused her for someone else with the same first name. She called the police to report that her truck
had been stolen in August. But when they showed up at her home, they arrested
her for aggravated assault committed by another lady by the same name.
These two women, didn't have the same address, birth date, height, or weight. According to the report, both women are of the same nationality.
Past
History:
No criminal
record
Background:
Lives in a rough
neighborhood patrolled frequently by police.
Unable to post the $12,000 bond to get out of jail, so
she wasn't released until her public defender found the victim of the assault, and brought him to the court to say, she was not the "lady" he had
accused.
"I didn't know what to do," She reportedly told
the news person. "I didn't know how to get out this situation."
"I just don't think in another side of town this would
have ever happened," quoted, another source.
One can only imagine how they would feel, if such a thing
happened to them, or a family member. There are serious flaws in our Justice
System.
I’m very sad for this innocent lady having been imprisoned for a crime she didn’t commit. I pray that many wonderful things will come her way. No one should have to experience a wrongful imprisonment.
